| China Trade and Investment Promotion Group Leave for Four European Countries |

On February 24, the "China Trade and Investment Promotion Group", headed by Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce, left for Europe. The Group is composed of officials from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Information, and State Council Information Office, and 200 Chinese entrepreneurs from CCCME, CCCFNA, CCCT, CCCMC, CCCMHPIE, CCCLA, and CAEFI , CATIS,. During the European visit, the group will do trade and investment seminars, negotiations and purchase in Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Britain, in an aim to promote China-EU bilateral trade , two-way investment, and economic and technological cooperation.
Gao Hucheng,Vice Minister of Commerce, said that this European visit is an important follow-up and implementation of Premier Wen's visit to the four European countries early this year. In the grim situation of the world economy the global financial crisis is causing , the Chinese government sent this trade and investment promotion group to Europe to enhance China-EU economic and trade cooperation and to buy more from Europe, that this is China’s resolve of opening up, China’s hope for strong economic and trade cooperation with countries in the world and for jointing efforts to overcome difficulties, and her determination and desire for an early recovery of the world economy.
Gao Hucheng also said that China and EU are important trading partners, EU is China's largest trading partner and fourth largest source of investment to China, China is EU's second largest trading partner. In 2008, China-EU trade reached US $ 425.58 billion, up by 19.5%, accounting for 16.6% of China’s total foreign trade. The visit of China trade and investment promotion group shall be helpful to further strengthen China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
